Make some ridiculously shit web page that does nothing except it looks cool. Maybe you answer a test and get some shit answer out. Make sure whatever it is people want to include some kind of pointless widget on their blog. Whilst you’re there squeeze a sneaky link back to your real site in it.
Then you’ll be wanting to buy or bully your way into a review on a top site. Let’s say… John Chow… That sounds cool.

I read a great article a while back about some viagra salesmen who got hold of a hit counter + stats package, promoted it with PPC and got #1 (till they were grassed up / zapped).

I must be getting old. Not a word of that makes sense to me.
But then, I didn’t understand what Harry said in his post either. duh. Promoting a widget that includes a link back? Yah, ok. So what?

The post probably came across as though I was angry. I’m not really angry. Just saying what I see. Looks like a good idea to me.
The only thing that really got to me was the whole simplicity of it
. I mean, what kind of billionaire are you? I’ve never seen such shit linkbait in my life and I can’t believe people are biting.
And Jez said grassed up. You quoted him as saying “greased up”… That’s kinda dirrrrrrrrty. I’m not sure that happened. When google catches your spam sites I’m pretty sure they don’t tar and feather you. But it is a good idea, maybe I should get in contact with them.

It does seem like a good idea, but when google sees the crap site will it still count it because I though that they only counted quality links, is that correct?

No. Google has a complicated computer driven algorithm. Computer algorithms don’t know dick. They guess the quality of a link.

I don’t get it… I see what you’re saying, that if they have a really poor site then it’s not right that they rank, but why would Google spank them for doing widget bait? Surely, doing that and getting showered with links will just get them on the good side of Google?

I actually encountered lots of sites who looks cool but the quality of their post sucks, there are lots of sites like that, I’d rather study about seo meta tags than waste my time on those craps, I wont even give em’ a link back.
